When I saw these inquisitive Welsh mountain ponies peeping into the barn at the farm, I couldn’t resist making the scene into a painting with a hint of a story in it. What do you think they can see?

The ponies’ winter morning feast at the ring feeder is about to be interrupted! The cool blue shadows and low sun made this snow scene a delight to paint.

I was excited to discover how much colour there was in the coats of these three dozing Chapman’s zebras.  I also enjoyed composing the image to exploit their amazing markings.
